Medical evacuation despite poor visibility

Three AB-412 Search and rescue helicopters

November 9th 2011. A Royal Netherlands Air Force AB-412 rescue helicopter evecuated a person from a Danish fishing boat. Despite poort visibility and low level clouds the helicopter, from squadron 303, finally arrived at the boat one hour after it left from Leeuwarden Air Base.

The boat was in British territory, 130 miles away from the Friesian Air Base.

Red Arrows pilot killed in incident at RAF Scampton

November 9th 2011. A Red Arrows pilot has died after being ejected from an aircraft at the aerobatic team's base in Lincolnshire.

The RAF confirmed the pilot was ejected from a Hawk T1 jet while it was on the ground at RAF Scampton. The Military Aviation Authority is carrying out an independent inquiry to determine the cause of the incident.

F-35 hits top design speed in flight testing

November 4th 2011. After the busiest month of flight testing to date and concluding three weeks of successful ship trials on the USS WASP the F-35 has reached its maximum design speed of Mach 1.6.

The record flight was flown at Edwards AFB by AF-1, as the jet is called, on October 25, a few days after the USS Wasp returned to its homeport of Naval Station Norfolk on October 21. In all two jets, BF-2 and BF-4, accomplished 72 short takeoffs and 72 vertical landings on the WASP.

Maintenance of F-16 moves to the Netherlands

General Dynamics (Lockheed)  F-16AM Block 15 c/n 6D-109 (US fiscal year number 83-1202) of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) 323 squadron and tailnumber J-202 (derived from the US fiscal year number) at Leeuwarden Air Base in The Netherlands (EHLE), exhibited during the Open Days of the Dutch Air Force on 17 September 2011. The aircraft was delivered to the Dutch Air Force on 20 May 1985 as an F-16A and later converted to the the F-16AM standard. It looks fully armed. Note the gun belt loaded onto the aircraft from the special drum cart.November 7th 2011. The Elbit Systems of America company has opened up a workshop for maintenance of F-16 parts in The Netherlands.

The facility will temporarily be located at the Logistics Centre Woensdrecht (LCW) at Rhenen and will move at the end of 2012 to Air Base Woensdrecht.

Dutch F-16 detachment returns from Libya

November 4th. The F-16 detachment that in recent months executed air operations over Libya, returned to the Netherlands. Family, friends and colleagues greeted the soldiers at Leeuwarden Air Base.

 The Netherlands has been contributing to Operation Unified Protector since the end of March. The operation aims to protect the civilian population, monitor compliance with the arms embargo and enforce the no-fly zone over Libya.
